If you are similar in thought as I am, for the life of me I could not articulate exactly what a TedX really was, but I knew the messages were all powerful and inspirational so the first opportunity I got to see a TedXManhattan event, I jumped right on it! No, No I did not get to fly into NY to see the event, but I did get to attend a viewing party in my local area and boy was I in for a treat.
Since the event was 6 hours long not including the reception, I decided I would pick and time and "stop in to see how things were taking place. I am so glad I went when I did. I was able to see many speakers and enjoy some delicious healthy foods from local vendors and chains alike. My favorite of the speakers was the 2015 TedXManhattan winner Stephen Ritz. The events theme was around the topic of changing what we eat and Ritz hit the nail on the head. In order to change things, we must grow! Yes growing veggies is great, but growing our young people is even greater. There is no way I could ever articulate what Ritz was saying so I will leave a link to the video somewhere below.
Now, since this was an event that I had never been too, I didn't have a clue as to what I needed to where. I knew it was a Saturday and more than likely most of the people would be in jeans, but I didn't want to take a chance. So I grabbed my handy dandy tutu, some flats, and some fabulous jewelry from my number one spot JCPenny and off I went.
I must say, I was a bit over dressed, but I didn't feel out of place, the people were amazing, the food was delightful and I could not have asked for a better event to attend. I look forward to any additional events similar in nature.
